Costa Rica is a beautiful country full of natural wonders and we would like to share it all with you.

We want you to have the opportunity to explore Costa Rica while you study Spanish. We offer all our students advice and assistance in arranging trips to all parts of the country.

We are aware that most students travel on a tight budget, so as part of our personalized service, we will help you get the best prices possible on tours and hotels. (Instead of receiving a commission, we ask all tour operators and hotels to give a greater discount to our students.)

For more convenience we also offer several packages that include an intensive 4-week Spanish course, Homestay and weekend tours.

If you would like to travel independently, you can choose any Spanish program you wish and we can help you arrange your travel plans (information, tour reservations and discounts, bus tickets, hotel reservations, etc.)

Even after you finish your Spanish program, you are welcome to continue using our travel services. You can leave your luggage at the school while you travel and use the Academy as your "home base".

Tour to Irazu Volcano, Orosi Valley & Lankaster Gardens

The trip begins ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazu Volcano for a view of the massive crater. On a clear day you can actually see the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans!

After an exciting tour at the volcano,we willdescend tothe historical city of Cartago. Here we will visit the mysterious ruins of the old Parishand view the beautiful Basilica of our "Virgen de los Angeles" with rich displays of carvings, statues and art.

After our visit to the Basílica de Los Angeles we will drive to the Lankester Gardens. The Lankester Gardens are a Tropical Paradise featuring over 800 varieties of exotic orchids, various tropical flowers, and plant life. This tour continues with a ride through the unique beauty of the famous Orosi Valley and Reventazón River.

The area is noted for its rich soil, abundant plant life, and the outstanding coffee plantations. We will have a stop for lunch in a restaurant surrounded by beautiful coffee plantations and an excellent view to the Cachí Lake. Along the way, we will visit one of the oldest colonial churches and see the enchanting "Dreamers House".


Tour to Poas Volcano, Grecia & Sarchi

The Poas volcano is one of the world's largest geysers with an awesome crater, over 1.5km wide. The volcano is active but completely safe for viewing.

This tour begins with a beautiful drive through lush coffee plantations and local flower farms. In addition to the volcano, the Poas National Park is a 9,884-acre reserve with rich vegetation and animal life.

The tour includes a hike through the surrounding forest, ending at the emerald green crater lagoon. Next, you have lunch at a mountain restaurant and travel to the town of Sarchi, where local craftsmen build the famous oxcarts of Costa Rica and other wooden crafts.

City Tour

The Academy is located within a short walking distance of the city center. You can do a walking tour from the school to downtown, going past the National Museum, Plaza de la Democracia, Craft Market, Congress Building and ending in the Plaza de la Cultura & National Theater.

National Museum
With the abolition of the Army, the Bellavista Fortress, an old army headquarters, was turned into the National Museum which houses Costa Rican archaeology, jade & gold pieces, colonial & religious art, etc. There is also a tropical garden with old cannons, and some of the walls are pockmarked with bullet holes from the 1948 civil war.

Coffee Tour

Visit a real coffee farm and enjoy the view of coffee fields in the majestic presence of the Poas and Barva volcanoes.

Learn about coffee in a fun way:
Professional actors guide you through each stage of production, from tending the trees to drinking a fresh cup.

Afterwards, you can purchase gourmet coffee and other unique gifts at the factory outlet.

White Water Rafting

This is a fun and exciting trip! Professional rafting guides will take you for a ride in a beautiful river surrounded by tropical vegetation. Our students love this tour!

Butterfly Farm and Zoo-Ave

In the area of Alajuela you can visit the Butterfly Farm and the Bird Zoo (Zoo-Ave)

The Butterfly Farm opened in 1983 and was the first commercial butterfly farm in Latin America. A
Butterfly Farm? Yes, we farm butterflies in Costa Rica and it's a very interesting process. Informative tours take you through tropical gardens filled with hundreds of butterflies of many species.

Students can learn about all the stages of the complex butterfly life cycle and during production season they can watch thousands of pupae being packed for export all over the world.

The Zoo-Ave has a collection of tropical birds, including over 60 Costa Rican species, displayed in a park like setting.

Weekend Tortuguero Tour

Tortuguero is one of the most exciting areas in Costa Rica. This is the most important site in the Western Caribbean for Green Sea Turtle nesting. This region abounds with rich flora and fauna. Its waterways allow all kinds of life to grow in a primary and secondary tropical rain forest. Orchids, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, sloths, toucans and many other species can be seen all over the area.

The tour leaves San Jose early Friday morning, going past the agricultural region of Heredia and passing through the heart of the virgin Cloud Forest of the Braulio Carrillo National Park. You descend to the tropical lowlands for breakfast and continue through banana plantations to board a boat that will take you to the hotel. The boat ride, through the Tortuguero water channels, with tropical jungle on both sides, is a tour in itself. Upon arrival at the hotel you will enjoy a delicious lunch. During the afternoon you can visit the Turtle Museum, the beach area and the small and picturesque town of Tortuguero. A great dinner will be served upon return to the hotel.

On the second day, there is an optional early morning tour of the canals at dawn-usually a good time to spot animals. Later, enjoy the Costa Rican flavors of breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast you can hike Tortuguero Hill for a great view or travel some more along the canals for spotting more wildlife. You will have a delicious lunch at the hotel and the afternoon is free for enjoying the swimming pool or venturing on your own in a canoe through the canals near the hotel. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

On the third day, students can have breakfast and enjoy the hotel facilities before starting our trip back to San Jose. You stop for lunch along the way and arrive in San Jose during the late afternoon.

Carara Biological Reserve & the Pacific Coast

You leave San Jose early in the morning and start you way to the Pacific Coast going past the agricultural region of Alajuela. After a typical breakfast, you head towards the coast & the Carara Biological Reserve, stopping at the Tárcoles River Bridge where huge basking crocodiles are often seen along the muddy banks below the bridge.

A guided hike will take you through the Carara Biological Reserve where variety of forest birds such as toucans, trogons, motmots, and others can be seen Monkeys, sloths and agoutis are among the most common mammals also present. After the hike you will go to the nearby Punta Leona Beach Club or Jaco Beach for a relaxing lunch. Then you will enjoy the beach and return to San José later in the day.

Rainforest Aerial Tram

Only 45 minutes away form San José, the Rainforest AerialTram provides an unforgettable experience in nature. The tour starts with a beautiful scenic drive through the agricultural region of Heredia, past the famous Cloud Forest of Braulio Carrillo National Park, to arrive at the lush Rainforest where the Tram is located. During this short drive you will experience three different climatic zones or micro- climates, which is one of the wonders of this small country. At the Tram, a guide will take you on an educational hike through the forest and also on an exciting and breathtaking tram ride through the treetops.

Tour to Arenal Volcano

The Arenal volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Americas. This tour includes a scenic drive from San Jose to Fortuna (on the Northern part of the country).

From a safe observation point, you can see the volcano and, if you are luck, you can feel the ground tremble and see the night sky explode with ask and lava in a natural display of fireworks.

Next you will visit the hot springs of the volcano where you can relax in the soothing water.


This tour begins with a scenic drive through the province of Alajuela towards the Poas volcano. After a tropical breakfast, you will visit the exuberant cloud forest of the volcano and enjoy a quick hike to the Botos Lagoon (an extinct crater).

As the tour continues now towards the Caribbean zone, you will stop to admire La Paz Waterfall Gardens / Butterfly Observatory.

After lunch, you will continue to the tropical area of Sarapiqui, which is surrounded by pineapple, yucca and palm plantations. Once you arrive at Puerto Viejo (Old Port) your adventure continues by boat on the Sarapiqui River where you can see monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles and a variety of birds.

Before returning to San José, you will drive through the rainforest of Braulio Carillo National Park, one of the most important reserves in Costa Rica.

Canopy Tour

Early in the morning we will leave the busy city and head up to the mountains surrounding our Central Valley. Along the way you will be able to drive by some typical Costa Rican Towns and enjoy the variety of vegetation, and the scenery of coffee fields and ornamental plants. As we ascend you will experience the climate changes, a common characteristic of our country.

The canopy Tour is a once in a lifetime experience, consisting of sliding in a cable between platforms over the forest. The total length of the wires is more than 2 kms. between 12 platforms. The San Lorenzo Canopy has one of the longest cables in all Central American Canopies with a little more than 700 meters long.

During the tour, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the valley and the tropical forest, while you enjoy our two groups of cables: The Forest and the Adventure Cables.

Finishing the tour, after a short walk to La Gran Vista Restaurant, enjoy a delicious lunch and a great view.
